Ratings, not adjectives: IP codes for dust and water, MIL-STD-810 methods for shock, vibration, and temperature — with the specific tested methods listed. Rugged costs 2–3× enterprise-grade; field replacement costs downtime, travel, and data gaps. The math usually says: rugged where devices live on vehicles, docks, and job sites; standard everywhere climate-controlled.
Ask for the lifecycle dates before the price. End-of-sale starts the countdown; end-of-support ends security patches — which for federal and regulated environments effectively ends the asset. We quote with published roadmap status and flag anything inside its final third of life, because a discount on dying hardware is not a discount.
